Nice Ford tractor!! Hold onto it! We had a few from the 1930s and 1970s. They were great, but we ended up going to Kubota in the 80s/90s...no complaints, but the Fords never had any issues we didn't create from negligence and abuse. Idea for you, is trickle chargers. I have some equipment and vehicles, and end up using 12-15 maintenance chargers every year. The ones that seem to last for years and do a great job are are Battery Tender and Schumacher. For some reason Black & Decker never make a single season. Bought 1/2 a dozen and all of them died. I have tried Motopower, as a cheaper charger, and they maintain well, but only last about 1-2 seasons. I would only be guessing how to do accelerated durability on a charger. Accelerated cycles through a resistor bank? Vibration...and drop testing???...based on how many times I end up fumbling mine to the ground?..;-0

Ok, so I did some analysis on the Audew jump starter and the NOCO GB40 jump starter based on Amazon critical reviews vs total reviews. The NOCO GB40 had a critical review rate of about 5%. The Audew had a much higher critical review rate of 15%. I bought my NOCO GB40 (original style) 2 years ago. It still charges and still sometimes starts a car, so until I find more definitive proof of the quality and longevity of the Audew jump starter, I'm going to just keep using the one I have.

I purchased the NOCO GB40 when it was on a lightning deal for $80. It always seemed to be flaky to me. It works sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't. When I need to jump a car, the battery is usually very flat and I use the safety override button. Again, sometimes it works, and sometimes it does not. I'm going to look into replacing it with the Audew from this review. BTW, what is with the super short cables? NOCO got smart and offered extension cables, but they changed the plug and it isn't compatible with the GB40. I've failed to jump a car before because the jump contact points were too far away for the cable length. Great review, thank you!

Great video, Thank You! What is the best way to keep these Jump Starters last in performance? What I mean is since these batteries are mostly stored until emergency, during the storage period should we recharge these batteries every so often back to 100% Full, or should we find a way to use/drain the battery power to certain percentage (0%, 25%, 50% 75%) before recharge to Full and ultimately when we recharge the batteries should we always leave the batteries on their charges for a full 6-8 hours or only as soon reached to 100%? Thanks Again!

I have a NOCO GB50 - and it has repeatedly started my big V8 hemi engine when I've left the car sitting for months and it's battery was too low to crank the engine at all. I used it four times without charging it. It's rated higher than your GB40 - but I wonder if your GB40 might be defective?

My car has a 55AH lead acid battery. It's got carry handles it's so HEAVY. My 1200cc BMW motorbike had a 14AH high spec all singing and dancing lead acid that weighed 10 pounds. I fitted a 4AH LiFePO4 battery to the bike. It weighed 2 pounds and was physically 1/4 of the volume. Yet it turned the engine faster than the lead acid. I put it on the car. Not only did it start the car easily, it also had no problem handling the load of the electric power steering AND the rear window heater. That particular power steering is especially fussy with low system volts. But no problems at all. HOWEVER, LiFePO4 struggles below 5 degrees C (40F approx). It needs a couple of failed starts to warm the battery core. It then works fine, BUT the car's clocks will have reset and some car electronics get uppity when volts go too low. The solution would be a built in heater core within the battery. In cold weather hit heat before turning the starter.

David Elliott: This is quite common. You can get an atv/snowmobile battery blanket, it's not much different than an electric heat mat used to start garden plants indoors. Most motorcycle and atv batteries range around 12Ah including AGM types. The difference with li-po or li-ion is the flow rate and the carrier voltage and yes some vehicles including snowmobile like Yamaha brand which use motorcycle engines btw need a sustained 13.7vDC to get all the injectors and electronics working so a standard 12.8vDC batery will often not do the job and the odd thing about all this is that you can get a standard 9v alkaline battery and hook it up to the snowmobile battery and the engine will start. It's truly an idiotic concept to not have any kind of capacitance in the vehicles ignition systems. There is an "ecoearth" brand li-po battery that does have and internal maintaining circuit you mentioned. it is however between 400 and 600$. I can confirm that it works but it's not a work machine battery. The best battery booster aka jump starter is the Schumacher (aka Seally) 1200s hybrid jump starter. It has capacitance, isolated li-ion battery with maintainer, and can pull a charge off another 12vDC power source into it's capacitors. You can also use it as a temporary car battery and it actually works at -40c. It's also close to 1000$.

They usually have protection circuits, but taking a lithium ion below it's minimum will brick it and ordinary lead acid won't take very kindly to it.

Question/suggestion: Could you make a booster pack that runs off 1 or 2 18(+) volt power tool batteries? Modern power tool batteries, in particular high current/capacity ones from the likes of Milwaukee and DeWalt, pack some wicked punch. And the cells are top shelf. Do you think they could output enough current to crank a winter-cold engine? A lot of people have powertools and batteries in their car all the time. And the batteries are usually charged well because they're being used. The booster pack, if they have one, is often half drained. Could a booster pack basically be like those lipo ones, but without batteries inside - there could just be one or two sockets for 18 volt powertool batteries? Not only could it be very handy, but also potentially a lot cheaper as there's no actual battery or supercapacitor in it.
