Truck Breakdown and Chisel Plow Work

We had a Peterbilt truck break down this morning and I pulled the John Deere chisel plow inside to pull the Raven SuperCooler anhydrous system off so we can put it on the strip-till machine later this week. My coat was damaged in the making of this video, but not my spirit.

Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

Drain some fuel from the fuel tank, you will see sediment and water. Solution, keep tanks full, check your transfer tanks for rust and sediment.

Planter conversion is super simple to do just lots of heavy lifting we did a stack fold 1790 last year and added boxes to it we mainly to seed corn our biggest set back was Deere having to come out and add data to the computers ours was the first kit they sold so we were the test dummies really detailed 3000 page instructions tho lol

Retro fit******we have installed a EE (exactemerge) on a 1770nt 24 row 30" at our dealership that was just a regular XP planter. The planter needed a lot of work such as Tru-vees, rock guards, scrapers, parallel arms and bushing. With that being said all that stuff gets replaced anyway when installing the RETRO EE kit. The customer had kicked around trading the planter to a new EE but liked that planter itself. The cost of a new EE 1775nt was pretty spendy. The cost of a retro fit kit seemed like the way to go so that is what the customer did and we installed it for the customer. As far as the was very time consuming but not difficult. Just read to destructions and dont panic...ha

Good comment about the socket - always black on impact, that said some judgement can be used based on experience. Dropped a "warsher". In Australia, we say "wosha". Do you warsh your plant and vehicles? We "wosh" ours. On the South Island of New Zealand there is still a Scottish burr on the "R". Is this a similar thing in Iowa and Idaho? The "R" thrown in?

If the fuel supply is coming from one common tank on the farm for all three trucks and its a filtered pump system then taking that filter off and cutting it open would be the first suggestion just to make sure you don't have a ruptured filter at your bulk pump and to see whats inside of it. Then go from there and take the filters off the other two trucks and cut them open unless they are all open element filters and see what they have in them. If you don't find anything there and they all were filled with the same fuel that could lead to a man made cause if you get my drift. Beyond that, the fact that highway tractors these days are typically aluminum tanks they don't rust so any condensation within one trucks fuel tanks would not create rust. I had issues a couple of years ago for the first time with growth/water in the primary truck filter on both trucks and since my filters on the storage tanks all have water separators on them I came to the conclusion that it most likely was trucks sitting through the summer with part full tanks and condensation through the breathing of tanks put the water into the system and the first filter which is a water separating filter caught that and then started growing algae within the filter. It was quite something to open the filter and see this large gob of slime in the bottom of the tin housing and it was bad enough it was growing within the holes at the top of the spin on filter like seaweed. I blame it on summer diesel that has a biofuel blend which is prone to doing this as I've never had an issue like this before. Looking into all the trucks fuel tanks with an explosion proof flashlight they were totally clean on the bottom. Also think back to lets say if that truck had been filled out of a rusty jockey tank sometime in the past and how the rust got into its system. That is not to say you have something entirely different going on with that truck as per a fuel pump or injector issue and its causing metal to be created and returning to the fuel tanks and then being caught in the fuel filter and taking only this trucks filters off you discover that along with a rust looking substance and water.

Zach, We run two 16 row exact emerge john deere high speed planters in southwest Iowa. Do it. Its worth it. Planting corn at 10 mph is killer. It's fun and you're flat knocking out acres. Time matters as you know. I'm sure you're acquiring quite the acres now so I'm sure its plausible in your guys well oiled machine of an operation.
