Here's how to know when the pitcher intentionally hit the batter with his pitch in baseball. We're going to breakdown the pitcher's body language to find out.
It’s a big question in baseball that everyone tries to figure out, did the pitcher intentionally throw at the batter or did it just slip? Even though the batter gets on first base when he’s hit by a pitch, the pitcher is sometimes okay with that if he can intimidate or retaliate against the batter or the opposing team. Maybe retaliating because their teammate was hit by a pitch earlier in the game or maybe someone said something mean about someone else’s mama, yeah things like that. When the batter feels he was intentionally hit by a pitch and the batter charges the mound that’s usually the start of an epic baseball brawl. So we’re going to breakdown the pitcher’s body language to finally reveal when the pitcher intentionally threw the ball at the batter versus when it was just a mistake, while of course showing and analyzing some of the exhilarating brawl that usually follows.
Now in the comments: What you would do if you were the pitcher and the batter charged at you? Let everyone know in the comments below.

Charge back. Nothing looks worse than trying to deck a guy only to end up flat on your back.

You're actually wrong i played professionally and semi professionally as a pitcher, we are told to show no emotion either intentional or not. If its intentional you need to look at the count the score the inning and the runners on. I think you need to know more about sport than just guessing.

I hit a few ppl. I never ment to. I was in HS I wanted to throw strikes. But my girl our starter was fierce and nasty. We got in a few pile ups with her on the mound.

Oooo that's crazy I played fast pitch for 13 years and I was second baseman relief pitcher. I hit ppl never on purpose. My our starting pitcher was bad ass. Our coach was smart. He put her in case she was fast and crazy. I relief and slower but accurate. We won a lot of games. I struck out a lot of ppl cause they swung to soon.

The ONLY sign you need about intentional hits is "did the pitcher step toward the batter" or step toward the plate?

2nd one - the pitcher almost invited the batter up to him, taunting him. his stance shows that he new what was about to happen and even egged him on

1st one - you missed the pitcher pumping the fist down, this would involve the pitcher lifting his hand back up to drive his closed fist down again, seemed like a YES ! moment hehehehee

When they throw the helmet it is to get rid of it in anger and they can get fined or suspended for hitting the pitcher with a bat or any other equipment so that’s why they throw it away like Harper did.

Hit an opposing player with a bat or a helmet is assault with a weapon. The ball hitting the Batter is part of the game. Throwing a bat or helmet AT the pitcher, means FELONY.

Its hard to get to the assailant when the two teams run out and interfere. And so here is my new strategy. In a case when a pitcher intentionally tries to do harm to you (and it could do serious harm) while you are standing there waiting for the pitch. Don't react immediately- wait for your next time at bat- stand far from the base, and when the pitcher begins to throw drop your bat and run around the line of ball and get to the pitcher before he is ready, and the crowd (teams) are in the way. Or keep the bat as your weapon of choice, and as the pitcher did when he hit you- and beat him with the bat as a way of giving some good old fashion justice.

Having Played Ball for a few years I know how it feels say...at 60-70 MPH. But if I were a pitcher who had just beaned a batter I'd stand my ground , watch him, make a decision on how best to Best him ...and go at it. i.e. If the batter looks like he wants to wrestle and both arms around the waist thing... It would have to be the Nolan Ryan approach. If he's flailing his arms ... maybe a kick in the pills. It's a fight! I don't understand people who put forth it's o.k. to punch a guy in the face 38 times but...Oh Dear not the nether region!! It's a FIGHT!!!

Back in high school, I hit a kid by accident with a curveball (maybe 70 mph) and he ran at me. He was little maybe 5’5” 125 lbs and I’m about 6’3” and 250 so I didn’t feel the need to fight I just threw him off me and waited for his coaches to settle him down lol

Appreciate the videos, but your constant stopping and starting the video to talk and explain, made me not want to watch the video anymore. Plus, even though there is some logic to what you’re saying, you wrong thinking there is one way to know for certain. I don’t agree with your analysis as every pitcher reacts differently when he hits a batter. Sometimes the pitcher tries disguise or sell it was intentional by acting upset too. Some are obvious, some are not. There is no rule of thumb here! It might help if you stop pausing the action while you try to make your point, instead of stopping the footage, just run it over and over again while you add your commentary.

If I unintentionally plowed a player with an 95 mph ball I’d try to shake his hand and apologize. Unless I wanted to hit him then I would probably just leave the game cause it will end in you either hurt or in trouble

I think Strickland was actually a bit surprised he hit Harper, notice his right arm flinch immediately after the pitch, I think he just meant to intimidate him

Harper hit 2 Homer's off Strickland in the playoffs and the yankees guy in 2and video slid into the red sox 2nd baseman and spiked him with his cleats earlier in the game (the temp in Boston was in the 30's so it hurt even more)
