ESPN's The Last Dance has taken the world by storm, reigniting the interest of the basketball world and placing the spotlight back on Michael Jordan, over 22 years after he took his last shot as a Chicago Bull. But what if I told you that the Last Dance isn't the end of the Michael Jordan story? The Encore Documentary is a dive into the real ending to Jordan's career, including his comeback from retirement for a third time, and his last two seasons with the Washington Wizards. These years are often brushed aside as the forgotten ending to MJ's legacy, but by choosing to ignore the final chapter, you might miss out on one of the things that made Jordan so special in the first place...

Quick Fix: I realize Rip Hamilton only won 1 ring in Detroit, it was a mistake on my part. I meant to say he went to two Finals not won. Anyways, I really appreciate all the love this project has received so far, it just proves that it was worth every second that it took to put together. While being historically accurate, this piece misses the point when it compares the glory of MJ's final season/games as a Bulls player depicted in The Last Dance to the last games as a Wizzard player, "disappearing in the shadow". The Last Dance was about the last season of the legendary Chicago dynasty, in which MJ was an iconic figure, sure, but that show was not about his last dance, which of course was with the Wizzard and this is the exact reason why it was left out of the Netflix show.

"Inviting many of the top player of the NBA to organize pickup games" Um, yeah, right. The producers of Space Jam constructed an air conditioned tent next to the set so he could practice. That's where those "pickup" games were filmed.
Trice
Trice Il y a 3 jours
There isn't any footage of the pick up games that were played prior to Jordan's Wizard return, it was top secret because he didn't want anyone to know he was planning a comeback. However, there are multiple valid sources (including the press conference I literally included in the doc), that reference the games taking place. Ron Arrest even fractured one of Jordan's ribs during one of the games. I chose to use the Space Jam footage because it's a good place holder and holds the same concept. Thanks for watching!

When I was 17 years-old, I do recall reading the article in the sports section of the San Diego Union Tribune about the rumors of The G.O.A.T. possibly returning to the Charlotte Hornets as a part-owner but later spiraled into him coming out of retirement for the 1999-2000 with Phil Jackson as Head Coach and Dean Smith as the President of Basketball Operations/General Manager . At first, I was against it and my Dad basically was "He should not do it. Stay retired." haha. But, man, if that had actually happened, that team may have gone to the NBA Finals that year or perhaps it was the Indiana Pacers' destiny to finally reach the NBA Finals that season. However, if M.J. looked that dope in 2001 at age 38 1/2 and while taking three seasons off, who knows what that Hornets team may have accomplished? Looks at the roster : Elden Campbell, Baron Davis, Ricky Davis, David Wesley, Eddie Jones, Derrick Coleman, Anthony Mason,Brad Miller and Bobby Phills (R.I.P.). Just imagine, if M.J. was able to light a fire under the asses of the Washington Wizards team and help lead the team to a (26-21) record before his knee injury, he would have for sure inspired that Hornets squad to overachieve and compete for the NBA Finals. Jordan at 36 1/2 going on 37 would have been some spectacular and legendary footage! He'd most likely average about 24-26 points per game, maybe even 27.

Jordan's did not make a mistake coming out of retirement. His mistake was coming out of retirement to play for the Wizards. He should have picked a borderline championship contender where he could have limited his minutes and possibly pushed a team over the top.

Really well-done video, and a great epilogue to the ESPN documentary. I spent my childhood in Chicago and my adult life in DC, so i'm very familiar with MJ "following" me across the country, and it's great to see this part of his career discussed.

I grew up in Chicago, but never got to see MJ play there. Now i live in DC, and around 2001, my friend had a couple nosebleed seats to a Wizards game. Finally, i had a chance to see MJ. Well, just before the game started, Jordan announced he was injured and couldn't play. 90% of the crowd left. So, me and my friend scooted all the way down to right behind the Wizards bench. We didn't get to see him play, but we got up close and personal the whole game!

Thanks Trice - great video - hard work pays off & you have a real talent for it! Bob Costas on Michael: " a supremely talented overachiever" & " he no longer needs accomplishments to make his case as the greatest ever, he just adds to it"! Mike Wilbon on Michael: "whatever you paid to see Michael Jordan play it wasn't enough, you knew that every night out there you were going to get the greatest concert of your life"! Growing up in Chicago, I enjoyed every game I saw Michael Jordan play & here's my take on him: 1) He never failed to impress! 2) Even on nights, his shot was off - even in games he lost, he always played like Michael Jordan! This video & others like "the last dance" documentary are great illustrations for every NBA fan to better understand how a 6'6 - 200 lb guard completely took the game over & sustained excellence for more than a decade!

Wow I totally forgot about the knee injury! Anyway I remember when MJ first said he was coming back. A friend of mine (who knew WAY more about b-ball than me) said MJ would average 18-19 PPG. This friend of mine ate, breathed, and slept basketball. He would literally record games and re-watch them, lol. The fact that MJ surpassed my friend’s expectations was VERY telling for me.

7:30 The problem was Ron Artest breaking Jordan’s ribs as he was getting back in shape, causing him to fall out of shape, then rely on games as a 38-year-old to get him in shape again. This is how he damaged his knees.

MJ is just the wrong person to be GM and owner. He's so focused on winning in the moment and winning it all, he can't see a big picture, he's incapable of rebuilding or being willing to conserve minutes in like a random loss in December.

sometimes I wonder, what is Mj never retired at the end of the 1998 season, how many points, rebounds, assists, blocks would he have, Note: I didn't ad 1993 bc I personally don't think they would win 8 straight, bc they would never get Rodman as Horace Grant would never leave so they wouldn't need Rodman

When my all time favorite player of any sport & hero decided to return to the game we both love, I was excited despite everyone saying he's going to tarnish his legendary legacy. I still believed in Michael Jordan. Despite what we expected & wanted to see, MJ still exceeded what anyone at his age could've done & still lead the Washington Wizards to the playoffs. Not too bad for a 40yr old man. Let's not forget he did all this with a busted up knee & a team who except for a few later to be superstars, MJ did it himself at the age of 40! There are players in the league who can't play because they clip their toenail the wrong wrong, tired, or don't feel like it that day or night. Hell there's those including MVP players who don't play the 3rd &/or 4th quarters because either the score is seemingly out of reach or they feel they need rest because they have another game 2 days later. This man played every game his last year ever (82 games) at 40yrs old. The last dance ISN'T over though. MJ is still a NBA owner with hopes of returning to the center of the court for his team winning a championship. I hope he can & does. It's exciting & still believe in Michael Jordan. G.O.A.T. ....NO.....Michael Jordan IS THE G.O.A.L. Greatest Of All Legends!!!

If the bulls front office were morons just think Jordan would’ve came back in a lockout season 99 and probably wins it again. And then imagine Jordan pippen bulls vs SHAQ kobe lakers 2000 nba finals. That might’ve been the passing of the torch.
