The Papadakis Racing team began drifting in 2004 and is the most winning team in Formula Drift history, earning the 2015 title with driver Fredric Aasbo, as well as back­to­ back championship titles with driver Tanner Foust in 2007 and 2008. The Rockstar Energy Drink / Nexen Tire Toyota Corolla Hatchback is the latest competition build from the Hawthorne, California, based team.
Team owner Stephan Papadakis is a legend of sport­ compact racing who began building his reputation in the 1990s with the first front-wheel ­drive, tube­-chassis drag car in the U.S. The team earned multiple records and championships in the discipline, turning in elapsed times and trap speeds previously thought unattainable in front­-drive drag cars. Papadakis' successes in front­-wheel drive were matched by his efforts in rear­-wheel drive when he campaigned a Honda Civic that became just the fifth car to join the NHRA's Sport Compact 200 MPH club

Wow, to change your timing bell or timing chain, I can imagine what that would cost the "regular person", not somebody that can have a 2020 Supra with 400 miles delivered to them, and can just tear the engine apart.. that must be nice when money's no object...And it still kills me that they couldn't make an upgraded 2j motor with all that new technology and lighter parts etc.. That's just a bunch of bullshit.

1. The jz is a boat anchor.2. It would barely survive any of today's emissions standards.3. I wouldn't even be close to a jz if Toyota did make it themselves.4. There'd be no point in making a i6 for 1 car.5. It would be another nsx complex that no one would buy if they did make the car themselves 6. Toyotas been co developing with other manufacturers to make their sports even before the mk4 was a thing.6. Toyota in general sucks at making a performance car without anyone's help.

German engineering, their machine work and design is great but the electronics are the worst! He better change out every wire harness, sensor, and computer! The oil industry is testament to German electronics, which must all be tested and reworked prior to shipping to drilling rigs! Their boards,wiring, crimps, sensors, and harnesses are all crap and will fail if sent out new. Cars are the same, my friends have BMWs, Benzs, Audis, Etc and they are shop whores! Every time I see them they are driving a loaner or their non German cars. I was going to buy a C63 AMG and they all stopped and said stick to Japanese! To make a long story a bit shorter the 2020 Supra would of excelled being 100% Japanese. I'll wait 4 years and scoop one up at $25k, like any BMW.

This is DEFINITELY a BMW engine, it literally has SO MUCH PLASTICCC! 5-7 years down the line I see a lot of brittle components that will certainly fail with the heat cycles. Plastic intake manifold, plastic thermostat housing, plastic oil filter housing, plastic cam covers, plastic oil sensor housing, plastic timing guides, plastic rocker ratio housing. Nice to see a closed deck aluminum block.

As an old german "Kunstofftechnik-Ingenieur" who worked in that area in the past I say: You are absolutely right; you don't have to forget also the negative influence of the diff. liquids over time esp. when they are contaminated with products from the combustion process.

"Its really cool that it's still an inline 6 like it's always been". You are a terrible product steven. How much do you get paid to lie? Its actually simplified from the older ones. The timing chain is in the dumb spot, the intercooler is in a dumber spot, the oil cooler is less useful because its dumb too. The best part is its actually a bmw so you know its grate!

Those two exhaust ports are pretty small. It will be hard to drive a three times larger turbo with them. There may be room to bore them out some, but not much with the bolts on two sides of each port. Maybe a 20% larger port job and/or install two turbo's, one per port. Definitely cannot drive a 66 mm or larger turbo with those small ports.

That coolant cooled oil cooler kinda scares me. Seems like a great place for coolant to mix into your oil. Seems to be a pretty sturdy engine though

12:25 fuckin' genius! ... as long as some idiot doesn't go trying to refit them mismatched. Very cool to see this tear down, I have an M240i with B58 in so this video is a treat. Just wish my exhaust note was as nice as on this T'ota. Not keen on the amount of plastic mounted to the engine, especially the top cover... polymer technology is pretty good, but it just doesn't last like Aluminium does.

BMW have produced a lot more straight six engines than Toyota, for a longer period of time as well. Why people still think 2JZ's are the ultimate straight six engine I dont know. It's the trans in those old Toyota's that were bullet proof, not the engines.
